INTERVIEW AND ITS TYPES

INTERVIEW AND ITS TYPES

Interview is a process by which the interviewer comes to know about the potential of the candidate to decide whether he is fit for a particular job. On the other side, the candidate comes to know the facts about the institution in which he is going to work and as an aspirant what is needed from him for the particular job.

TYPES OF INTERVIEWS

On the basic level, we have two types of interviews – Direct Interviews and Indirect Interviews. Under these two, we have several types. Some important types of interviews that are used now are
1.   One on One or Face to Face Interview.
2.   Group Interview
3.   Panel Interview
4.   Screening Interview
5.   Luncheon Interview
6.   Telephonic Interview
7.   Online/ Video Conferencing Interview.

1.   One on One or Face to Face Interview
In this type of Interview, One candidate faces One Interviewer face to face. The interviewer will ask questions and the candidate will be giving answers.

2.   Group Interview
In Group Interview, a group of candidates face one interviewer. Normally a group activity like Group Discussion will be given and based on their performance the candidates will be selected for personal interview.

3.   Panel Interview
The Panel Interview is different from the Group Interview in the way that a Panel (Group) of examiners (interviewers) will be questioning one candidate.

4.   Screening Interview
The Screening Interview is normally used to screen candidates when a larger number of applicants apply for a limited number of posts. The Screening may be done in the form of a written examination, an additional qualification, some experience or something like that.

5.   Luncheon Interview
This is a social interview in which the candidate will be tested in the midst of the society maybe in a restaurant, hotel or something like that. Normally the social behaviour of the candidate will be examined.

6.   Telephonic Interview
Telephonic interview is normally used as a screening interview. Normally this will be followed with the personal interview.

7.   Online/ Video Conferencing Interview

When a candidate is not available for a normal interview session, either he may be engaged in some other work or maybe abroad. Such candidates will be interviewed through the Online mode or through Video Conferencing.
